This here is my review of the Project Overlord downloadble content pack for Mass Effect 2 on the PlayStation 3. Yes I know that it's a bit late, and the issues are probably well known by now but I'm doing a review anyway. So neener-neener.
I want to start by saying that I own Mass Effect 2 for the 360, the PC, and the PS3. I own Project Overlord on the PS3(since it came with the game.) and the 360. The 360 version of Project Overlord I give a suitable 8/10. The DLC is quick, but fun. The storyline to it isn't the most original thing out there, but the combat sequences are very entertaining and that dreadful screech of the rogue VI is almost nightmare inducing.
I went in to the mission zone of Project Overlord on PS3 expecting the quick and enjoyable experience that I had on 360, and until I got to the first Hammerhead part I did. The first portion of the Hammerhead section loaded and didn't look terrible, so I was enthusiastic. As soon as I left the first little alcove that you start in however I noticed that the terrain wasn't rendering correctly, thinking this was just some error on my hardware's end I turned off the PlayStation and let it sit for a few minutes and then loaded ME2 back up. This did not solve the issue. I shrugged that off thinking maybe it just needs a little bit of time to catch up, like the graphics in ME1 on the Xbox 360. Sat still for a good 5-6 minutes, still looked terrible. Not letting that stop me from enjoying the action I went ahead with the mission, got to the first rock bridge and hopped up onto it...and promptly fell through it and died. This happened once more before I could successfully get past it. The rest of the Hammerhead sections were riddled with terrain that either A) didn't render or B) sent me to my demise. I must also say that the controls for the Hammerhead on PS3 felt a bit more unresponsive than they did on the 360, and there where a few times where I'd have to mash my X button for the jump jets to kick in. Normally I'd suspect something was wrong with my controller, but at the time it was fully charged and I had no issues with using any of the buttons on-foot, or for the rest of the game for that matter. Also I saw no graphical issues in any of the on-foot sections, and got through the rest of the mission without any other difficulty.
I'm going to give this DLC a 5/10, the on-foot aspects of it were great, just like the 360 but the huge graphical errors and general gameplay issues that flooded the Hammerhead portions made it pretty hard to enjoy the DLC, and most definitely removed any sense of immersion.
